Andrew Gifford

Originally from Yorkshire, Andrew Gifford began his interest in ornithology from a very young age. He spent his childhood observing and painting birds, and subsequently rescuing the wounded ones he would revive in his aviary. A moment came where he chose painting over bird conservation and now has built an exciting and successful career as a landscape painter due to his phenomenal talent.
Within his work, subjects are the often overlooked places of nature – such as brambles and hawthorn and scrubland – commonly taken granted. By giving them a platform through his work, we in turn are shown the beauty of what is under our noses.
His paintings are in both private and public collections throughout the world.
“I wanted to make paintings that immersed you in the woods, where your senses could be overwhelmed by the confusion of branches and brambles and sunlight.”
